Coping strategies refer to the ideas that a person uses to deal with a stressful or threatening situation in their lives. Stress may have a significant impact on the mental and physical health of an individual. For this reason, it is necessary for one to recognize stress and to identify its cause as well as coping strategies. Some of the most beneficial coping strategies include cognitive strategy, behavior modification, and communication strategy (Folkman, 2013). The cognitive approach derives heavily from the person’s awareness of stressful situations. Thus, his/her anticipation of the consequences of stress plays a fundamental role in terms of the ability to copy. However, I do not understand precisely how an individual copes with stress using the cognitive approach, therefore, I would be interested in probing this matter further.


Behavior modification entails self-observation as well as promotion and consolidation of change (Folkman, 2013).  Here, the person that is subjected to stress should seek to become more aware of their thoughts and feelings, exchange negative inner dialogue for more constructive statements about themselves and ensure that the change process is consolidated. This explanation provides a straightforward pathway towards the affected individual’s quest to cope with the stress.

Lastly, thecommunication strategy entails talking to someone about the stress (Folkman, 2013). When an individual shares his or her stressors with another person, they may be able to solve it collaboratively. For instance, when performing risk sharing, a firm shares the risk with an insurance company who then takes the burden of the risk. In this way, the business is cushioned against any severe consequences arising from the risk. In conclusion, anybody may be subjected to stress, and this explains the need for people to identify and employ the coping strategy that best suits their circumstances.
